AVLC continues to grow!
In the past few months, we have added four new employees! Myriam Bedard and Katelyn Alwine are our new Administrative Coordinators. Myriam will handle patient check-out, scheduling, phone calls and insurance preauthorization. Katelyn will cover patient check-in, scheduling, phone calls, insurance verification and patient charts.
Megan Shaner is our new Clinical Assistant. Megan will assist Dr. Heird with new patients, follow-up appointments and procedures, as well as assist the front desk with scheduling and phone calls.
Alexis Mundy is AVLC’s new Director of Practice Promotion and Education. She will visit local family doctors and medical offices training staff about vein disease and the treatments we offer at Advanced Vein and Laser Center.
We are excited and thrilled with all the changes and our continuing growth!
Keep watching… Even more great things are ahead for AVLC!

Four Agreements Workshop
"The Four Agreements" workshop group completed their first session on April 5, 2010. We are so excited to have an eclectic, eager to learn group! The group consisted of former "Secret" bookclub members: Stacy, Jean, Tammy and Steve, as well as some new members: Bernadette, Alexis and Jeremiah.
The topics covered were:
* "The Four Agreements" introduction
* Domestication (how the Voice of Knowledge is developed)
* The "Book of Law" and how it is created in our heads, becoming the framework of the dream of "first intention"
* Use of the "Mastery of Awareness" to enable you to become mindful of your own perceptions and thoughts
The group discussed how they come to (individually) change their own 'agreements' in order to better themselves. From meditation to reading to breathing techniques, each group member was able to share some insight on how they make "The Four Agreements" work in their lives.
We meet Mondays from 7-9 through May 3rd at Advanced Vein and Laser Center.
Contact alexis@veinsbegone.com or call 717.741.2214 for details!

Yesterday was the first day of Autumn. In the United States and the rest of the northern hemisphere, the first day of the autumn season is the day of the year when the Sun crosses the celestial equator moving southward (on September 22nd or 23rd). This day is known as the Autumnal Equinox.
I’ve often wondered why so many people get excited this time of year. I have always looked at this season negatively. With fall comes colder temperatures, snow and before you know it the holidays will be upon us along with the stress that season always brings to me. But not this year! This year I am determined to look at fall with new eyes. Time seems to spin by faster and faster and I’ve begun to realize how precious these days are. Our children grow older and away from us whether we like it or not so I’m determined to wake up each day with joy in my heart. To not look at leaves as a menace but part of gods beauty. I will take the time to savor each moment and I invite all of you to do the same. I’ve made a to do list for the fall and maybe some of you will join me in my effort to taste the colors of fall!!!

Ride the rail trail every chance I get with my entire family and enjoy the scenery!- Take a long walk around my neighborhood and say hello to everyone I encounter!
- Take my kids to Lake Redman and rent a row boat to explore the lake and it’s beauty!
- Attend as many football games as I can and cheer my team on regardless of how cold it gets!
- Take a drive around the county’s back roads and enjoy the beauty and solitude of the drive. Stop at every produce stand and pick up something different from each one.
- Go to a local farm and buy some apples and pumpkins (after a hayride of course) instead of picking them up at the grocery store.
- Visit one of the many local vineyards for a wine tasting.
I’m sure you can think of a bunch of other ideas and I’d love to hear about them so I can add them to my list. Hopefully you can enjoy the season as I’m determined to do… with fresh eyes and an open heart!!

Today is Women's Equality Day!! August 26 of each year is designated in the United States as Women's Equality Day. Instituted by Rep. Bella Abzug and first established in 1971, the date commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, the Woman Suffrage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gave U.S. women full voting rights in 1920. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York.
The observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. If you are reading this, remember to take a moment to remember all the beautiful and wonderul women in your life (including yourself). This also serves as reminder to just how far we have come over the last century. We must continue to build each other up as we all have value and have something to contribute to our houses, employers and society as a whole.
May you all have a blessed and beautiful day!!

Back to the Basics
Well, it is another rainy morning in York, but the Waterfall in our treatment room is sparkling blue in the sunny atmosphere as the team and Dr. Heird have a full day of Laser procedures underway.
The Open House is old news but the many new friends and patients are not. We look forward to seeing all of our new and old friends everyday here at the AVLC.
